It has grown to attract some 25,000 railfans who attend each year for its real life railroads, scale model railroads, historical societies, travel agencies, art shows, flea market dealers, importers, manufacturers and photographers.
This show is considered the largest show of its kind in North America. The event features real life railroads and scale model railroads, historical societies, travel agencies, art shows, flea market dealers, importers, manufacturers and photographers. Modelers’ exhibits will display outstanding handiwork on layouts ranging from the tiny Z scale which fits on a coffee table, a monster 80 foot N-Trak system, to our own Amherst Belt Lines Modular layout that boasts 8+ scales miles of track. There are a series of hands-on clinics at the show allowing folks to see how much fun this hobby can be! If you have any interest in railroads, this is the must see show of the year.
In simplest terms, the Amherst Railway Society is a community of people who share a fascination with railroads, and has been for over 50 years. If we go all the way back to the mid-1950s, we find a small group of University of Massachusetts chemistry students and faculty members who realized that they shared a common interest in railroads. So they started meeting regularly to share railroad knowledge, photographs, and stories.
The Amherst Railway Society has a home in Palmer - known as the town of seven railroads - at 1130 South Main St. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month. For more information www.railroadhobbyshow.com www.amherstrail.org.
