Springfield Museums à la Carte Lectures

The popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures are held weekly at 12:15 p.m. in the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. This month’s lectures includes: March 2 - Paintings Hung in Parlors: May Alcott and other Nineteenth Century Women. March 9 - The Life and Times of Eleanor Roosevelt. March 16 - Artists Abroad: From American to Expatriate. March 23 - Passion @ 2100 Degrees Fahrenheit. March 30 - Mythology, the Mediterranean and Metaphor in the Visual and Performing Arts.

Historic Deerfield & The Art of Printing

Pressing Matters: The Art of Printing at Historic Deerfield" will be held on Thursday evenings in March. Through a combination of lecture and object study, this three-part course will examine the practice of printing on different media. Woodblocks and copperplates transmitted the designs that would adorn maps, prints, and other decorative objects on paper. March 16, 23, 30, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Additional fee, pre-registration required.

Annual Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival

The Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival runs March 18 - April 4. Our festival offers a diverse line-up of entertaining, engaging, and thought-provoking films -- including many regional premieres -- that provide audiences with a multifaceted exploration of Jewish identity, community, history, and politics.

Smith College Museum of Art Exhibition: Leisure & Luxury in the Age of Nero

through–August 17. Featuring works seen for the first time outside Italy, this groundbreaking exhibition centers on the ancient town of Oplontis on the Neapolitan coast, a site that was buried and preserved when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE. The exhibition focuses on two adjacent, spectacular Roman archaeological sites—one an enormous luxury villa (“Villa A”) that once sprawled along the coast of the Bay of Naples, the other a nearby commercial-residential complex (“Villa B”), where products from the region were exported.

Springfield Museums Exhibit: Jeweled Objects of Desire

Visitors of all ages will be dazzled by extraordinary gems, beautiful jewelry and fantastically embellished creations from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution in Jeweled Objects of Desire, a new exhibition opening March 29. On view through December 31. The special exhibition also features the work of internationally renowned jewelry designer Sidney Mobell, celebrated for crafting common utilitarian items into unique artworks through the use of gold and precious gemstones.
