Springfield Museums Exhibit: Zoo in You

LAST WEEKS Trillions of microbes make their homes inside our bodies, and the Springfield Museums will introduce you to them! Visitors of all ages can explore the fascinating and complex world that is our microbiome in Zoo in You, a new exhibition on view through April 30 at the Springfield Science Museum. Visitors are invited to explore this vibrant world of our inner microorganisms through engaging, interactive, and bilingual exhibits and programs.

Springfield Museums Presents “Cats in Hats”

LAST WEEKS Exhibit Cats in Hats: Illustrations by the Western Massachusetts Illustrators’ Guild, through April 30. The exhibit features over 40 original works centered around the common theme of “cats in hats,” in honor of Geisel’s most famous work of children’s literature. For this exhibit, cats are represented in a variety of scenes – some cute and fanciful, others quite serious and even scary. An interactive space for visitors within the exhibit will include a special “Cat Walk” scavenger hunt, highlighting hidden cats located around the Museums’ campus.

Springfield Armory Exhibit: Push the Green Hand Ahead

From April 6, 2017 to January 7, 2018. Exactly one century ago to the date, over 5,000 Armory employees manufactured weapons for 3.5 million soldiers who fought in Europe. “Push the Green Hand Ahead: Springfield Armory in WWI” is the title of the next special exhibit at Springfield Armory. This exhibit commemorates the centennial of the U.S. involvement in WWI.

Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, The Legend of the Lares

In ancient Rome, the domestic gods called Lares Familiares took the form of bronze statuettes or painted figures and were worshipped daily in household shrines. The Legend of the Lares, curated by 2015 Mount Holyoke College graduate Taylor Anderson, provides an overview of these enigmatic and versatile gods, and the devotional tools of the Roman home. The gem-like installation features more than a dozen bronze Lares and other gods. On view through May 28

Western New England University Art Gallery, "The Weight of Air"

"The Weight of Air," a cross-disciplinary, multi-media exhibition by photographer, videographer, and imaging specialist James Gehrt, from April 16 to May 20. The gallery will host an opening reception April 23 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. There will also be a gallery talk on April 27 at 7:00 p.m. when the artist will offer insight into his work. "The camera is a tool that allows me to capture the way I see the world around me," says Gehrt. "In one sense I am not creating, I am reacting to my surroundings. Free and open to the public.
