Springfield Museums Exhibit: Jack & Jackie

Jack & Jackie: The Kennedys in the White House (through–March 25) celebrates America’s 35th President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy by highlighting their White House years, 1961-1963. The exhibition also honors the centennial of John F. Kennedy’s birth, May 29, 1917; he was the first president born in the 20th century. The exhibit also features costumes and props from the acclaimed miniseries “The Kennedys.” And a gallery devoted to a recreation of the Oval Office—with photo opportunities available sitting at the Resolute Desk.

Springfield College Art Exhibition

Through March 12. Art Exhibition: All Two-Gather by Andrae Green. Andrae Green’s paintings span his career, and in a way, is a mini-retrospection. The paintings show how his thought process has evolved—and is evolving—and also where he might end up. Painting is how he documents both his inner and outer life and it helps him to come to grips with worlds within and outside. Gallery reception for artist and public: Feb. 1, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Norman Rockwell Museum Exhibition: Never Abandon Imagination

Never Abandon Imagination: The Fantastical Art of Tony DiTerlizzi, an exhibition of works by the acclaimed illustrator/writer that will be on view at the Museum through May 28, 2018. Known for his successful book series The Spiderwick Chronicles, DiTerlizzi is widely celebrated for his images of such fantasy creatures as fairies, trolls, sprites, and goblins. The exhibition will highlight the artist’s influences and artistic process.

Mount Holyoke College Art Museum Exhibit: Piece Together

January 23 through May 27. Mary Lee Bendolph (b. 1935) is celebrated for her bold compositions and improvisational quilting style. This exhibition, which is the first to examine works from five decades of Bendolph’s life, considers her quilts as objects with many meanings. At once functional necessities and aesthetic wonders, many of the quilts on view are also family documents and symbolic memorials. OPENING LECTURE Wednesday, January 31, 5:30 p.m.

Springfield Museums Exhibit: Human Plus: Real Lives + Real Engineering

January 27 –May 6. Fully interactive, Human Plus offers visitors a chance to explore and create a range of low- and high-tech tools that extend the abilities of the human body! Visitors can ride a mono-ski in a simulated ski race, control a DJ station using the wheels of a wheelchair, “feel” the music with a special touch panel, engineer solutions to unique design challenges and even discover how someone can control a neuroprosthetic limb with their thoughts! Human Plus also showcases compelling stories from a unique field of engineering that helps people carry out their day-to-day routines, as well as realize their lifelong dreams.

Northfield Mountain, Once in a Blue Moon

Jan. 31; 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. For ages 16 and older. Free; $16 with snowshoe rentals. Pre-registration is required. Join us to celebrate winter, fitness and the blue moon! On average once every 2 ½ years, two full moons occur in the same month. The second full moon is known as the blue moon. Join us to experience snowshoeing under the light of the moon and to learn another definition of a blue moon.
