Holiday Season in the Pioneer Valley

Holiday Season in the Pioneer Valley!

The Pioneer Valley takes in three scenic counties in Massachusetts' Connecticut River Valley. The unspoiled beauty of the Valley, including the city of Springfield, has long been a popular destination for tourists. Although visitors flock to the area year round, it’s during the holiday season that the Valley shines brightest.

With so many things to see and do in the Pioneer Valley and the greater Springfield area, you'll be hard-pressed to choose what to do first. You might prefer to start your day with the Walking in a Winter Wonderland exhibit. Step into a life-sized snow globe and explore all five rooms, from the Wintery White Snow Queen to the Victorian Romance themes. Stop by the Green-Screen Photo Studio for a picture to capture the moment for all time, or bring the entire family for this year's holiday portrait. Do your holiday shopping at the gift shop, which offers unique home décor, ornaments and gifts. The exhibit is open until Jan. 5, 2014, with doors opening at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

When the sun goes down, it's time for Bright Nights. The exhibit, held at Springfield's Forest Park, features beautiful holiday lights and much more. Take a carriage ride, drop by the gift shop for a snack or to let your little ones visit Santa, attend a 5k road race or enjoy a show at the Christmas Cabaret. Bright Nights kicks off November 27 and runs nightly through Jan. 5, 2014, except for December 2 and 3.

Take a step back in time with Dickens Days in Westfield. There's so much happening that you'll have trouble taking in all of the events during one holiday season. Be there when Santa arrives at the Amelia Park Children's Museum on November 29, or plan to be there for an encore arrival every Saturday and Sunday between Dec. 1 and Dec. 22. He's even making a special appearance on Friday, Dec. 20.

Check out Dickens Market Days at Depot Square for a Victorian holiday celebration and shopping excursion. Special activities for children, a crafts fair and more await you. Shop the special sales or just enjoy the holiday music.

Youngsters between the ages of three and five might enjoy attending one of Tiny Tim's Holiday Teas. These are held at the Boys and Girls Library on Westfield's Court Street. The event is free, but you'll need to register by calling 562-6158. The teas will be held from Tuesday, Dec. 17 to Saturday, Dec. 21. Teatime is at 9:30 a.m. on the 17, 20 and 21, and at 6 p.m. on the 18 and 19.

Many more activities and special events await you in Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley this holiday season. For more information, please contact us at the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors' Bureau by calling 1-800-723-1548, or visit us online.
