GSCVB Announces Marketing Partnership Agreement With MGM Springfield

Springfield, MA (March 31, 2014) — The Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau (GSCVB) today announced it has entered into a marketing partnership agreement with MGM Springfield.  After a series of meetings between MGM Springfield executives and the GSCVB Gaming Subcommittee, terms of an agreement were reached to bolster tourism-related member businesses up and down the Pioneer Valley.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for tourism in the Pioneer Valley,” said Mary Kay Wydra, president of the GSCVB.  “A partner with the brand-recognition and resources of MGM can really help change the landscape when it comes to tourism promotion in our region.  We’re delighted to have them as partners; the MGM team has been extremely professional and clearly dedicated to establishing a working relationship that is mutually beneficial. It’s going to be a powerful, productive partnership and we’re eager to get started.”
Michael Mathis, MGM Springfield President said, “This is an organic partnership between entities that understand each other.  The GSCVB drives tourism throughout the Pioneer Valley and MGM Springfield is primed to be an anchor attraction in the region’s urban core.  We look forward to promoting all the inspiring and interesting areas that attracted us to this region.”
In addition, Wydra stated, “With the awarding of the license this spring and the subsequent opening of the MGM casino in Springfield, we see great opportunity to co-promote and leverage their brand and marketing assets to benefit the Pioneer Valley’s entire hospitality industry, especially our many small businesses.  We will witness the addition of a terrific new tourism product and we are confident we will see many new and more total visitors as a result.”
Wydra outlined the main components of the partnership agreement, which include:

  • Cross-promotion – MGM has committed to vigorous marketing efforts coordinated through the GSCVB that will identify and promote other Pioneer Valley tourism entities via on-site signage, exposure on social media, newsletter mentions, reciprocal homepage web links, etc.
  • Additional circulation of Visitor Guide – MGM will undertake the costs of printing many thousands of additional copies of the GSCVB-produced Guide to the Pioneer Valley for placement in their hotel rooms, concierge desks and other key locations
  • Enhanced marketing efforts – MGM has agreed to provide resources dedicated to enhanced promotion of Springfield and the region with active participation on TEAM Springfield, a cooperative convention sales effort

The partnership agreement takes effect one year prior to the casino’s formal opening.
MGM Springfield, an approximately $800 million resort, is proposed for 14.5 acres of land between Union and State streets, and Columbus Avenue and Main Street.
The GSCVB, an affiliate of the Economic Development Council of Western MA, is a non-profit destination marketing organization that generates economic growth for Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley by promoting the region as an ideal destination for meetings and conventions, group tours, sports and leisure travel.
